Beware of Sam Tamang!

Please note: This is a demo, not a full concept. The descriptions here are brief and don’t fully capture the project.

About

What good story doesn’t have ghosts? And, well, supernatural beings for that matter.

So, what exactly is “Beware of Sam Tamang!” – and why should we be wary of them (at least according to Bella)?

As with all my stories, I like my settings to serve as a base for exploring topics I find interesting. In this case, the main theme is identity.

That said, I also love writing fun plots. This story blends comedy with relationships and explores how the people in your life shape your perceptions and views.

So, what’s up with the title then? Should you really beware of Sam? Well… I’ll leave that for you to wonder.

Featured Characters

The story has a fairly tight cast, though it includes a handful of side characters. I’ll focus on the main three for now:

Bella Bennett

Portrait of Bella Bennett

Your everyday girl who gets herself tangled in a situation she can't make sense of.

Sam Tamang

Portrait of Sam Tamang

An eccentric, enigmatic persona obsessed with ghosts.

Florence Darrow

Portrait of Florence Darrow

A gentle soul who is surprisingly stern and stubborn when needed.

Why them?

Bella serves as your window into the “normal” side of things and narrates the story. She’s your guide to the hidden supernatural reality. Her development drives the story, and she’s a fun mix of relatable and self-assured traits.

Sam is the reason this story exists – the defining factor, hence the title. Identity is central to their character – their gender, neurodivergence, fashion, and obsessive interests make them unapologetically themselves. Representing that authenticity felt important.

Florence is a fascinating support character. While Bella and Sam take the spotlight, Florence is fully in control of her identity, giving the story a different perspective.

Worldbuilding

This story is part of my four-part series of interconnected concepts. I tend to combine stories into the same universe when the settings feel related, which lets me to explore different ideas while keeping the world consistent.

“Beware of Sam Tamang!” is the most fleshed-out concept in that series. I’ve been expanding it for a while, and it’s a project I really enjoy.

The story features a hidden supernatural world, governed by strict rules to remain secret from humanity. It starts like a typical ghost-hunting story but gradually expands into a grander supernatural display. At its core, though, it’s always been about connection and identity.
