You asked? Then I shall deliver!
Main Skills
Illustration
- Surprise, surprise – this takes the top spot! And for good reason. I’ve been doing digital art since 2016, and since I haven’t given up, you can see the fruits of my labour here.
- I’m a versatile artist, being able to draw across different styles with relative ease. I love to experiment; it keeps those brain cogs happy!
- My current style… Is there one? Probably. I mainly lean towards stylised, cartoony art but like to add some flavour with semi-realistic quirks, like shading.
Character Design
- I’m very dedicated to designing my characters. I have over 150+ of them just roaming around in my mind. Fun stuff! Each one is unique, and I tend to favour simpler, stylised, readable designs.
- My process usually starts with characters first, then I build a story around them. Just my approach.
Story Concepts
- Oh boy, where to start? As a kid, I daydreamed a lot, and that’s where my first glimpses of story-writing appeared. By 2017, I finally started creating coherent story concepts. Now, I have around 30+, many of which are my pride and joy.
- I’m versatile with genres, blending them as I see fit. Slice-of-life, soft sci-fi, psychological, action, comedy, horror – too many to list, really.
Writing
- Yes, I write! But what kind of writer am I?
- One of my strengths is getting into my character’s psyche. I can think like them, which is pretty handy if you ask me.
- I also enjoy character-study writing and exploring themes/topics. Writing for the sake of just writing is boring! I like to go on creative expeditions where I can find value.
- Plot? That depends on my characters. They always come first for me! I will never let the plot compromise them. Nuh-uh! But don’t worry, I don’t write boring plots. Each of my concepts is unique, and I see no need in repeating myself twice.
Side/Niche Skills
- Graphic Design: I studied Media Graphics for 2 years in college (not uni). I can do it, but I’m not the biggest enthusiast. To me, it feels more constrained compared to illustration.
- Video Editing: Fun fact: I used to have several YouTube accounts. So, I can do basic editing!
- Animation: Back in 2016, the YouTube animation community was booming. I had an animation channel with some small success and learned animation basics. I barely animate these days, though. It’s time-consuming!
- Coding: I study Computer Science at university, but I find coding frustrating to do. So much to learn! As a generalist with a focus on art and writing, I simply don’t spend as much time coding. That said, it’s handy for projects like my game or this website. Full-time, though? Not for me.
- Game Development: I’m currently developing my own game in Unity and learning constantly. Who knew lighting could be so painful? But it’s fun, and I like learning, discovering shortcuts, and sheepishly celebrating when something goes well. My brain screams, “YEESSS!!” before realising there’s more to do.
- Traditional Art & DIY: I attended children’s art school where I got my foundational skills. I don’t do it regularly, but give me some materials and free time, and magic will happen!
- Media Literacy: Believe it or not, but this skill is rarer than you’d think. Okay, I’m joking – well, partially. I don’t analyse professionally or conduct deep research, but I like to do it passively. It’s also useful for writing.
- Problem Solving: That one comes naturally to me. I tend to think creatively and can find solutions that work, even if they aren’t “engineer-approved.”
- Social Media: Not my strongest suit, and I could definitely research platforms more. But I’ve been around long enough to at least find the “post” button.
- Organisation: I have lists. A lot of lists. I even rate the games I play. So, I’m typically organised, heh.
- Patience: I once spent a whole day trying to buy Minecraft because it wouldn’t let me. A YouTube video with 1.5k views saved the day. I got a cockatiel who was terrified of hands. He bit me way too many times. But months later, he perched on my finger on his own. That’s when I knew I had officially become a professional bird whisperer. I’m finishing a Computer Science degree I don’t particularly enjoy. Yet here I am, in my final year!
