The Death of Phoenix
Please note: This is a demo, not a full concept. The descriptions here are brief and don’t fully capture the project.
About
The Death of Phoenix is my most ambitious project yet. It features at least 50 relevant characters, with storylines and plots intricately intertwined. The narrative is heavily shaped by past events, and the themes explored aren’t any less complex. More on that later.
The story centres on governmental corruption and the abuse of power by gods. Felix’s main ambition is to bring both structures down. Along the way, he encounters allies and enemies, each significantly influencing his plans.
Featured Characters
There are far too many characters to include, so I will focus on very specific cast members. The story involves heavy conspiracy themes, shifting alliances, and “playing sides”, so anything I reveal could potentially give too much away. I’ll keep these descriptions as brief as possible.
Felix Elsher
He is the defining character of the story, representing injustice, class divides, and their consequences. A major aspect of his character revolves around family, particularly his internal conflict between revenge and familial bonds.
Which path should he choose? What should he sacrifice? Revenge or love? For the greater good or for himself?
Camellia Elsher
Camellia is Felix’s guardian, the Public Relations Officer and Division 0 Representative of the Graveyard, as well as the founder and CEO of a luxury fashion house. She is a human but has a contract with a God of Gambling, allowing her to be effective even in direct confrontations.
Death Mallory
Death Mallory is a Gravefather, or founder of the Graveyard. Despite his name, he has no relation to the God of Death, who disappeared 300 years ago without a trace. Still, many people see Mr. Mallory as Death itself. After all, he does own a Graveyard.
God of Time
The God of Time is the head of all Gods, ruling as the rightful heir after his creator, God of Fate, let go of her immortality centuries ago.
Graveyard Division 0 Employees
This is an extensive and important cast, with each member playing a relevant role in the plot. For now, I’ll leave them out.
Why them?
This story is a personal gem from 2018. Many of the original characters are still with me, and I consider them some of my best writing to date. With them, I’ve built a vibrant and meaningful cast that drives the story forward and embodies its core ideas.
Many of these characters have been wronged by the system in different ways. Showing their perspectives has been interesting to write about, as things are often far from straightforward, and everyone has their own burdens to carry.
Worldbuilding
The story is set in a dystopian world defined by class divides and deep corruption.
It’s a dark fantasy work, but instead of using established fantasy races, I created my own, or at least heavily reimagined them. Originally, this was because I didn’t dabble in existing fantasy worlds. Now, I simply prefer building my own foundations.
There are also sci-fi elements, since most of the population consists of humans, many of whom can’t use magic. To overcome this, humanity developed technology that can use magic artificially.
I’ve had this story for so many years now, and it has truly grown into something admirable. None of my other concepts have reached the same scope.
This story feels like a once-in-a-lifetime project, one I want to do justice when the time is right. That’s why it’s on the backburner for now, waiting for the moment when I can give it my very best.
